Origin: 2011 Summer Fun
Task: Understand how to use most of the machines and tools in the MIT Hobby Shop.
Approach:
I used a band saw to cut a big piece of wood, and then a table saw to cut down 5 pieces of wood equally. After using a jointer to produce a flat edge, I used a planer to make sure the wood have a flat surface, and then I used router to cut out a 90 angle degree ledge, so that the top piece will wedge into the box. The edges of 4 pieces of wood are cut equally to 45 degree angle to create miter joints. The 4 pieces of wood are glued together using wood glue and c-clamp to make sure 4 pieces are together tightly. I used chisel to cut off some edges from the top that doesn’t fit into the box.
I finished building my wooden box at the hobby shop. I learned how to use different machines, and how does the mite joints work. Following are the tools that I used for my wooden box.
Router/ Band saw/ Wood Glue/ Chisel/ Planer/ Jointer/ Table saw/ C-clamp/ 45 degree Angle cutter
